Associate General Counsel
Ira Karas is Associate General Counsel of Madison 1031 and the Madison family of
companies. As part of the General Counsel's office for over 10 years, Ira focuses on
general legal matters and ensures Madison 1031's legal compliance in a constantly
changing regulatory landscape. He is responsible for overseeing transaction
structures, compliance procedures and broad-view legal goals. Ira earned his Juris
Doctorate at Rutgers School of Law. He is an active member of the New York State and
New Jersey State Bars.
Lee David Medinets, Esq.
Chief Counsel
With extensive legal experience, and a specialized focus on 1031 exchanges, David is a
legend within the 1031 exchange industry. As a former CES Board President, David
brings deep knowledge and vast experience to every transaction. This knowledge was
recognized as far as the U.S. Congress, who called upon David to serve as an expert
witness while structuring 1031 legislation. David is known for his ability to advise
on the ideal transaction setup for every deal, serving as a guide and mentor for 1031
exchangers across the nation.
Barry Neustadt
Senior Tax Advisory Accountant
Barry Neustadt serves as Senior Tax Advisory Accountant for Madison 1031. In his role
at Madison 1031, Barry Neustadt advises 1031 Exchange clients regarding the tax
implications of their tax-deferred exchanges and interacts directly with their legal
and accounting teams. As a seasoned CPA and tax accountant with significant tax and
real estate experience, Barry Neustadt assists with complex transactions, finding the
most advantageous structure and method to attain the client's required goals. He also
assists clients with Reverse and Improvement Exchanges and their related tax
implications.
Abe Gorin, Esq.
Associate Counsel
Avraham (Abe) Gorin serves as Associate Counsel of Madison 1031. In this role, his
keen understanding of legal matters helps guide the company in an ever-evolving
regulatory environment. Abe is an experienced attorney who provides practical advice
on complex transactional issues, contract drafting and negotiation, and regulatory
compliance. Abe brings a wealth of knowledge from private practice to the team. His
expertise is focused on sophisticated tax and related matters in real-world
applications, stemming from his experiences representing clients before the IRS and
other federal and state agencies. Abe earned his Juris Doctorate at University of
Pennsylvania Law School and is an active member of the New York and New Jersey State
Bars.

Jacob brings his decades of real estate experience to the fore for Madison 1031
clients. With his deep knowledge of the real estate market, coupled with his keen
understanding of how to help clients best maximize their 1031 exchanges, Jacob is

With decades of experience in real estate, title, and §1031 exchanges, Esther oversees transactions ranging from under $100,000 to more than $1 billion. She has led the coordination of highly structured and complex exchanges, working alongside many of the nation's leading tax attorneys, accountants, brokers, and real estate professionals, including sophisticated reverse exchange transactions requiring extensive planning and execution.
Known for her practical expertise, strategic leadership, and ability to navigate challenging transactions, Esther is a trusted resource within the 1031 exchange industry.
